Your Life, My Life, Our Lives MATTER!

I know this has nothing to do with diet and fitness but this post MATTERS more than any that I’ve ever posted on my blog… 

​I had to have the #BlackLivesMatter #BlueLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter conversation with my child this morning. She was shocked & saddened by the recent events that have played out in the media regarding the fatal shootings of #PhilandoCastile #AltonSterling & the 5 #DallasPoliceOfficers as we all are. That could have been our Father, our brother, our son whether on the blue or black side. At the end of the day we have to come together in love and #unity and all of us need to turn back to God. Please join #Dallas in #praying TODAY @12 NOON for the healing and unity of our country. Parents have this talk with  your children & end the conversation in praying for the healing and unity of ALL of God’s children. Enough is Enough!

Hate cannot dispel hate only #LOVE can…

Happy New Year & welcome to 2016!!! I pray this will your best, fit & healthiest year ever! I am still on this journey  with you to becoming healthy and whole, Body, Soul and Spirit!  Join me on my next 30 day challenge beginning on January 2, 2016!!! Read below for details!

This Blog has been set up to provide updates on my monthly 30 day challenges and to motivate you on your diet and fitness journey. I started this blog in 2013 that year I lost a total of 63 pounds in 6 months! Now that is epic! If you are interested in learning more about my challenges click on the follow me button on my blog so you can subscribe and get automatic updates in your email whenever I post new motivational articles. Read below for the challenge details & stay tuned for future updates! Let’s get fit and eat clean in 2016!!!

The goal for this challenge is to eat clean that means no processed foods and to eat organic food as much as possible but if its not possible for you to buy organic just stick to eating clean. Here are the acceptable foods for this challenge:

1) Lean meats including chicken, turkey, lean cuts of beef and pork. Turkey or Pork Bacon with no Nitrites or Nitrates. Target, Trader Joes, Whole Foods Market, Healthy Home Market, Fresh Market and EarthFare sells this. You can also have Dannon Triple Zero or Chobani Simply 100 Greek Yogurt and Eggs.
2) Vegetables
3) Fruit (Do not eat this after 4pm)
4) Beans, peas, hummus (limit to once per day)
5) Nuts and Seeds
6) Drinks: Water, unsweetened almond milk, whey or soy protein for a breakfast shake or smoothie, coffee and hot green, black, or white tea. You can drink coffee or tea without a sweetener or you can use 1-2 teaspoons of honey as your sweetener. But limit it to once per day. On this challenge I really want to eliminate all artificial sweeteners as studies suggest that they are more harmful to your health as originally suspected. Strive to drink at least 1 gallon of water per day or more.
7) Sleep at least 7-9 hours per day
8) Exercise at least 3-5 days per week for 45-60 minutes per session.
9) Lastly register for this free weight/calorie tracking service at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ or you can download the MyFitnessPal app on your smartphone or tablet. Send me your username and the email address you used to register to this Free service to my email at monicaakerele@gmail.com The purpose of this app is to track your meals, water and exercise activity for the day. It also allows you to track your weight and measurements. Remember this you cannot manage what you do not measure! When you get set-up I want you to add me as a friend on there so I can hold you accountable during the challenge from a tracking standpoint & also so I can celebrate your successes along the way. If you choose the option of finding friends on Facebook you will be able to add me. Otherwise you may be able to find me by my username of which is monicaakerele.

I know this may seem challenging but it has truly been the key to my weight loss success along with prayer! I lost 63 pounds in 6 months by implementing these processes. Let me know what questions you have! If you would like to take this challenge with me email me monicaakerele@gmail.com

What Vision Do You Have For Your Future Self?

TGIF! Today is day 2 of our 30 day challenge and I don’t know about you but I am EXCITED about this month’s challenge! I was out on a hiatus during the month of September to recuperate from surgery that took place in my throat but I am well on my way to recovering all and I have been released by my doctor to start exercising again! So you can imagine that its great to be back in it to win it! During my hiatus I gained about 5 pounds. So that goes to show how important the part of exercise plays in your daily routine and it’s impact on your weight. Well now I’m back and I am ready to get it in! What about you?

Today’s blog is about Vision and how  important it is when you are making decisions about your health or anything that you want to accomplish in life. You have to see in your mind’s eye exactly what you want the end goal to be before you begin this process. When I began my weight loss journey in 2013 all I knew was I wanted to get out of the 200s!!! Once I had a vision of what I wanted I could then begin to set goals that would eventually get me to my desired weight or BMI. What goals have you set so far? Goals are necessary so it can move you forward. My first goal was to lose at least 2-2.5  pounds a week. Which would mean I would lose 10 pounds a month and in a year’s time if successful at meeting those goals monthly I would have a net weight loss of 120 pounds. So measuring your progress is important thus we have our weekly weigh in so we can measure how much weight we have lost. How do you ensure you meet your weekly goal? A good way to do that is to leverage the MyFitnessPal tool/app or Fooducate on your computer, iPhone/iPad or on any Android device. Another good tool is to get a Fitbit tracking device and to use the Fitbit app to track your meals and exercise daily. This helps you to stay on track so you won’t go over your allotted calories for the day. Measuring has been key to my weight loss success. Remember this you cannot manage what you do not measure so this is really important! I know at times it may seem overwhelming to implement these processes but I promise you it’s well worth your time. This is your life, you are valuable, you have a divine purpose to fulfill daily and the world needs you to be able to show up daily to get it done! Being healthy ensures that you will be able to show up and be ultra productive! So what is your vision for your health? What goals will you set to get there? What measuring tool will you use to ensure you meet your goals weekly? I know these are tough questions but you are worth the work, you are worth the answer, you are worth the outcome this work will produce! Invest in you & love yourself enough to implement these processes and move YOUR vision forward. Let’s get it! 🙌

Are You Motivated To Lose Weight? If Not Read This!

Happy Thursday!!!! It’s day 5 of our 30 day challenge! How are things going with you on the challenge? I pray things are going well. I know for some of you including me, sometimes you can get discouraged on your fitness journey. Every one of us have been at the place of discouragement & apathy concerning changing our eating & exercise habits. We have all tried to search for the motivation to get back into the game and finally be consistent on this journey to weight loss. So today I want to motivate you with several reasons why you should stay on track and eat healthier, exercise and/or lose weight. Here are some possible benefits below:

1) Your health picture will change dramatically

A) Reduce High Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar Levels, Cholesterol

B) Increases Fertility in Women impacted by PCOS

C) Prevent or Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

D) Reduce the risk for developing Strokes, Colon Cancer & Heart Attacks

E) Improves Sleep Apnea

F) Improves breathing

G) Reduces the risk of developing other chronic diseases that are obesity related

2) You will live a longer & fuller life

A) Increase your probability of living long enough to see your children, grandchildren & great grandchildren grow up

B) You will have more energy & be able to remain active & travel freely without constraints

C) Reduction of the need for medicine & physical therapy

D) Be a great example & model for your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family members & friends

E) Save money in the long run since you will not need as much medicine or Hospital/Surgical visits

3) Boost in your mental/emotional health

A) Exercising actually helps you to relieve stress & tension

B) Increases your self-esteem & outlook on life

C) Reduces the risk for developing depression

4) Bring God glory with our Bodies!

Our bodies were given to us by God. We only get 1 so let’s do our best to keep it in great shape by being a good steward over it.

With God’s help, a made up mind & consistency You CAN do it! Let’s Get it!

HEY EVERYONE! I know that I have been MIA! But I am BACK! Had way too much going in this month but I have still been on the eating clean challenge and trying to get it in exercise wise everyday. Tomorrow Is Our Next Weigh In Day!

Happy Sunday All! It’s day 14 of our 30 day challenge! Tomorrow is our 2nd weigh in day for this month’s challenge. So don’t forget to weigh in first thing in the morning to tell me how you did during this past week! Did you get your healthy shopping in this weekend? Yes I Can And I Most Definitely Will!

Have you ever been stuck in life and you didn’t really know why?  A lot of times we can become complacent and just go with the flow. Living life without really counting the cost of our actions, habits and inclinations.  That was me a while back. I was just living, barely existing and just going with the flow even though I knew that my actions were leading me down an unhealthy path. Then one day I had that wake up call that I so desperately needed.

After giving birth to my son almost 3 years ago I lost the ability to walk. Taking one step was so painful. I literally dropped to the floor and had to have my husband carry me. As a result I had to go to an orthopedic specialist who told me that if I didn’t lose weight that I was going to be destined to life in a wheel chair or a walker. The weight had become too much on my limbs and could barely support my weight. I couldn’t even carry my own baby son. THAT was a wake up call! I knew then that something had to change… Guess what had to change??? My MIND! I  had to repent(change my mind) from mindless eating and from being too lazy or preoccupied to go exercise. I finally made the decision to LOVE myself enough to start on this health journey.

What is your why? What has been holding you back? What keeps you from making the permanent decision to move forward in a consistent healthy lifestyle? What is it that you had or have to repent from? Sometimes there are times in life where triggers from your past may tempt you to revert back to your old habits, like emotionally eating when going through something stressful or to just veg out and not exercise when times are hard. Don’t get me wrong rest is good and necessary but keep it in balance with a  healthy diet & a regular exercise schedule.  I’ll continue with this idea of how your mind is a critical component of whether you will be successful on this diet & fitness journey on my next post! Until then I want you to know that despite your past challenges & despite where you are right now there is HOPE! You CAN do it and you WILL meet your goals. Only believe and let your belief propel you into action. Faith without works is dead! So with God’s help and your made up mind, let’s get it!!!
