How To Process Loss and Grief in a Healthy Way

Hello Choosing Healthy Family! I hope each of you reading this blog post has been able to work on making progress with prioritizing self-care to support your mental health and well-being. If not, you’re at the right place for some self-care motivation! As I prepared to travel for the celebration of my Uncle’s 70+ years of life memorial service this week, the feelings of loss and grief since his recent passing have gripped my entire maternal side of the family, including myself. My uncle was truly a loyal, helpful, jovial, and family loving soul. I’m dedicating this post to him and his beautiful wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, nephews and nieces. 💙

As I am currently hyper aware of these feelings of grief and loss, I am also hyper aware of the importance of dealing with these emotions in a healthy way. As I process these emotions personally, I thought it would be cathartic to also draft a blog post on this subject to help support my family and anyone else who may be experiencing loss and grief during this season of life. Here are some some tips on how to process loss and grief in a healthy way.

1. Accepting Your Emotions:
Grief is a natural human experience that comes in many waves. Allow yourself to feel sadness, anger, confusion, or whatever arises. Bottling up emotions can hinder healing.

2. Reach Out for Support:
Seek comfort in loved ones or consider joining a grief support group. Talking about your loss can be cathartic and help you feel less alone.

3. Take Care of Yourself:
Prioritize healthy sleep, nutritious meals, and regular movement/ exercise. These habits will strengthen your physical and mental resilience.

4. Remember, Grief is a Journey
Be patient with yourself. Healing takes time, and there will be good days and bad days. Celebrate small victories and know that gradually, the pain will lessen.

5. Seek Professional Help if Needed
If grief feels overwhelming or interferes with daily life, consider seeking professional help from a therapist or counselor. If your job offers an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) or your medical insurance offers Mental Health Benefits, consider leveraging those benefits to get access to counseling services to help support you on your grief healing journey.

I am signing off now to connect with my family. Sending peace, positivity, and light your way. Thanks for reading. ✨️
