Today is Day 14 of our 30 day challenge! How are things going? What challenges and successes have you had thus far? For me I have had some challenges & successes so far. I will share with you high level both. My biggest challenge has been resisting the temptation to emotionally eat. This was my old go to/habit/method of coping when I was dealing with stress. Instead of drinking alcohol and taking drugs I chose food as my drug of choice. Which is how I became overweight in the first place. I was averaging a weight of over 260 pounds for most of my life… Thank God I can say that was the old me… That person is gone now! Thank God I can say that I have not fallen into the emotional eating trap but just fighting off the temptation has been a challenge. This month has been one of the most stressful months this year between work stress, family stress, ministry stress and interpersonal stress. Trying to juggle all of the hats that I wear daily can be challenging at best but I thank God for giving me the grace to handle each issue successfully.
Instead of emotionally eating to deal with the stress I decided to first pray, second praise & thank God for what he has already done and what he is going to do and lastly I got in some extra exercise. Instead of falling off the wagon and getting a dessert or ice cream, eating chocolate or an extra helping of food I decided that when I get stressed that I would take it out on the treadmill or the elliptical trainer and I also threw in some sit ups, flutter kicks and some push-ups! I felt so much better after doing that. I had to shift from my old patterns of dealing with issues and shift to something new, beneficial and healthy for me. I had to have a paradigm shift in my thinking. I have come too far to turn back now. Can I get an AMEN? We all have to make the decision to just say no to bad and unhealthy habits and build/implement a list of new ways that you will handle things in stressful times. I would encourage you to get a pen and paper or your tablet or smartphone and write a list of activities you can do in times of stress. I’ll start us off:
Instead of Emotionally Eating I am going to do the following:
- Pray alone or reach out to someone trusted to pray with you.
- Meditate on the word of God
- Praise/Worship God
- Go EXERCISE at the Gym, Outside or at Home!
- Reach out to a trusted friend or accountability partner that you can talk to who can help encourage you
- Listen to or sing a Christian/Inspirational song
- Listen to Christian/Inspirational Preaching/Teaching podcasts
- Read a Christian/inspirational book or blog
- Drink a nice cold glass of Lemon Water 🙂
Feel free to add to this list but this is what I do to get through those stressful times. If you find yourself needing additional support coping with life and issues from your past I would highly recommend you getting an appointment to meet with a highly rated Professional/Licensed Counselor/MSW Therapist (If you are in Charlotte, NC I recommend Dominion Counseling at http://www.dominionccs.com), Pastor/Minister or a Life Coach. There are resources available in the community to help so take advantage of it so you can start the process of becoming whole BODY, SOUL & SPIRIT!
I am praying for your wholeness & success! Let’s Get It!!!!

TGIF Everyone! Today is Day 10 of our 30 Day Challenge for the month of April! I pray the challenge is going well and you are getting enough sleep, eating clean and exercising at least 3-5 days a week for 30-60 mins per session. Well today I wanted to share with you an important post from my BFF Shayla Scott. She has been on this 30 Day Challenge journey with me for about 1.5 years now and she is also my accountability partner. We all need someone in our lives that will challenge us, push us, encourage us and keep us accountable on this journey we call Life as well as on any worthy goal you wish to pursue. She is going to share with us the importance of our thought life as it relates to this 30 day challenge! Enjoy!
“While being in the best shape as physically possible is so important, it is not the only type of shape we should focus on. Everything starts with a thought. We actually frame our environment physically when we think certain thoughts. Dr. Caroline Leaf tells us that our brains process 400 billion thoughts per second! Wow! We are surely fearfully and wonderfully made. These thoughts build our surroundings and so it is so important that we shift any stinkin’ thinkin’ we may have acquired. It takes 21 days to shift the bad processes in our brains and restructure them. This can be the beginning of a beautiful territory for us. We can shift our physical bodies with what we eat and how we exercise but to maintain that healthy state it will take being mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. This all starts with a positive thought. If you have trouble consistently upholding positive thoughts, let us know so that we can encourage you! That is what we are here for! Remember, a lasting change starts from the inside and then continues outside. Ruby Dee said it best, “The kind of beauty I want most is the hard-to-get kind that comes from within—strength, courage, and dignity.” – Shayla Scott

Happy Wednesday today is the 1st weigh in day for our 30 day challenge for the month of April! Weigh in and tell me how your first week went. Even if it didn’t go so well I want to know so we can see what we need to tweak to help you see some results! I can’t wait to hear from you!!!
I got up early to get it in this morning! Never thought in a million years that I would become a morning person! The reality is you can do anything you have the faith to do. Nothing is impossible to you if you believe and just do it. You shape the life you want to live by the belief in your heart and the words that come out of your mouth. Your words have POWER… This is my confession today… I CAN do ALL things through Christ that strengthens me! This sacrifice will reap the results I desire! You CAN do it too!!! Make TODAY great & healthy!!
Let’s get it! 🙌

Happy Saturday Everyone! I hope you have had a great weekend so far! It is day 4 of our 30 day challenge! So how are things going so far? Are you staying committed to the plan? I sure hope so! So since it’s the weekend I thought it would be appropriate to speak to the importance of staying completely stocked with healthy foods. So here are some tips!
1) Go shopping weekly:
Because you are eating clean you will want to shop once a week and get enough for at least 7 days. Especially because you want to make sure you have everything you need to have a successful week. Also you don’t want to go beyond a 7 day supply so you can ensure that your food supply does not go bad.
2) How you shop in the grocery store is key:
When you’re shopping you want to make sure that you only go around the perimeter of the store in other words stay on the outside lanes moving from the deli section to the fruit & vegetable section, the meat section the dairy section and on to the freezer section for frozen fruit and vegetables. With the exception of going to the aisle for beans, nuts, olive oil, peanut/almond butter, packaged fruit & etc. that is on your approved 30 day challenge food list.
3) Why is this shopping process so important?
The reason this is key is so you will always have an ample food supply of healthy food on deck to reduce the temptation to get unhealthy food on impulse. If you get tempted you can go in your fully stocked food pantry and grab something that can satisfy that craving guilt free.
4) One final but important note:
As important as it is to ensure that you have and keep a healthy food supply on a weekly basis it is also equally important to make sure that you purge your house of unhealthy food. If it is in your house that is going to be a source of temptation. So completely purge your house of any temptations that could possibly get you off track! Let’s have a successful week next week! You CAN do it!
