Yes You Can! The Power of Your Words! — September 25, 2013

Yes You Can! The Power of Your Words!

When it comes to exercise and changing your eating habits a lot of us get stuck at the words “I can’t do it”! Well I hate to burst your proverbial bubble but Yes You Can! Nothing is impossible for you if you believe. I would encourage you today to change your mind & change your confession about what you can & cannot do. The real question is why don’t you believe you can? Who told you that you cannot make the changes necessary to become a healthier you? Are you listening to the voices of your past failures or did someone tell that you that this is an impossible task for you? Whatever the case may be I am here to tell you YES YOU CAN! I want you to believe this and to speak this concerning your weight loss goals, concerning your food choices as it relates to eating clean, concerning working out at least 5 days a week & concerning sleeping at least 6-8 hours a day. Did you know that your tongue is a powerful tool? Your tongue has the power of life & death in it. Your words have creative power & they frame the world you live in daily. So use it to your advantage.

When I started my weight loss journey after my 50th+ try (LOL) I made a decision to release my faith and to speak LIFE instead of death concerning my weight. I confessed & declared by faith that I CAN do ALL things through Christ that strengthens me & guess what God has strengthened me and here I am 45+ pounds later with the fruit of my confession. Do not underestimate the power of your words. Be intentional about what you believe, what you say & what you release into the atmosphere. Speak what you want to see. Speak by Faith, Faith is the substance of things hoped for & the evidence of things not seen. There is power in your confession mixed with faith and then your consistent action must follow. I truly believe that our confessions are the wings that put our faith to flight & gives us the push we need to put our faith into action. Trust me YOU CAN DO it! Say it with me I CAN DO IT!!!

Let’s Go!

What are you thinking? The Power of a Renewed Mind! — September 19, 2013

What are you thinking? The Power of a Renewed Mind!

It’s day 11 of our challenge and I have a question to ask you. What are you thinking? What is on your mind concerning this challenge & what you can do to stay committed to the process? First of all how bad do you want to lose weight, get physically fit & be healthier overall? I am sure the answer is that you definitely want this more than almost anything. So why does this desire not translate in to action or sustainable/continued action on your part? The answer lies in the way you think. If you are going to be successful at this challenge or any diet or fitness program you’ve got to change your mind. The Bible says that “As a man thinks so is he”. So what we do and how we live is a function of our thought life. Until you overcome the doubt, unbelief, & lack of faith in your ability to be successful in losing weight you won’t do it. You have to believe that you can do this. When I began my journey to weight loss I had to start right there in my mind. I had to dismantle all of the doubt & unbelief that I had accumulated throughout the years where I failed time after time. This time I released my faith & declared that this time will be different. This time I am not doing it in my own strength I am depending on the grace (strength – empowerment – enablement) of God to help me to reach my goals. I believe by Faith that I can do ALL things through Christ that gives me strength. And just as he has strengthened me He can strengthen you on your journey.

I also believe its important to read and hear resources that will help renew your mind concerning your health. I highly recommend listening to the podcasts from The Nutrition Diva & The Get Fit Guy. They provide great inspiration and ideas to get you going. You can also check them out on their website &

The Power of Setting Goals! Let’s Go! — September 18, 2013

The Power of Setting Goals! Let’s Go!

What goals do you have? Are they specific? Are they measurable? Are they written down? Setting goals are necessary in order for you to measure whether you are arriving at your destination or not. What goals do you have? This is true in any area of your life but as it relates to weight loss how many pounds do you need to lose total? Write that down on a sheet of paper at the top. Then write down underneath it achievable short term goals that you can shoot for on the road to your final destination or goal. When I first started my weight loss journey I was overwhelmed by the overall weight loss goal that I set for myself but instead of being overwhelmed I decided to dissect it into small goals. I started off with a 5% of my total body weight goal which equated to a 13 pound loss. Once I met that goal I set a new goal at 10%, next I went to 15% now I am working on my 20% of my original body weight goal!!! Seeing the progress that I have made in losing over 40 pounds has been very motivational! Setting short term goals has taken the stress off of me trying to achieve my final goal weight since I am focused on 1 short term goal at a time. I also use this method when I work out. I set goals for what I want to accomplish each time I work out. Today my goal was to knock out 4 miles and guess what I did! Believe me you can do anything you put your mind to. Take some time today to set your overall goals, then decide & write down what your short term goals will be to get you there. I dare you to dream & to reach beyond the stars as it relates to your goals in life, in every area of your life. Do not settle for a mediocre existence, there is so much more to you than that. Remember there is nothing too hard for God, so if you believe & you commit your goals to Him & get to work (faith without works is dead) you will be unstoppable.

Tell me what you know about Healthy! I want to hear from you!

It’s Day 9 of our 30 Day challenge & I would like Tuesdays to be known as our knowledge sharing day! What recipes, tips, articles or links would you like to share to help encourage, inspire or educate us today on our weight loss or overall health journey? I would love to hear from you today! If you don’t have any ideas share a picture of what you are eating for either breakfast, snack, lunch or dinner. Also don’t forget to either reply to this post or send me a message letting me know how many pounds you lost in the 1st week of our challenge! Kudos to Niecee for losing a whopping 8 pounds in 1 week & to Kia for losing 5 pounds! I have lost 4 pounds Yay! Here is my tip for the day. Instead of buying fruit on the shelf buy fresh fruit and blend it yourself to make a fresh fruit sauce as you see pictured here. It contained pears, strawberries & white grapes! Get creative with other fruit combinations. No sugar or water is added, it’s 100% fruit with no preservatives! Now tell me what you know about Healthy! Let’s Go!

Weigh In On This!!! — September 16, 2013

Weigh In On This!!!

It is Day 8 of our 30 day challenge & its also Weigh In Day! Weighing in weekly is very important to see how much progress you are making. Many times when we weigh in & depending on what the scale says we will either get encouraged or discouraged. If the scale says we have lost weight we get excited & encouraged but when it says we have gained weight or stayed the same we usually get discouraged. I would encourage you not to allow the scale to get you down but to use it as a tool to encourage you to take it up a notch! Use the scale to your advantage in gauging whether what you are doing is enough to get you to a place of progress on your weight loss journey. Don’t let discouragement allow you to fall out of the race, no keep on going!!! Let it ignite you to be a little more aggressive. You may need to add a little more time to your daily workout or maybe even add an extra day to workout. Also take a look at your portions to ensure you are not over doing it and make sure you are tracking your meals, drinks & snacks daily and staying within your calorie(MyFitnessPal) or points(Weight Watchers) allotment for the day. Whatever you do don’t give up, stay consistent & stay the course we’ve got somewhere to go & some goals to meet! Let’s Get It!!!

Get Up & Move! (Day 5) — September 13, 2013

Get Up & Move! (Day 5)

You heard me get up & move! Believe me I say it in the most loving tone imaginable! But seriously the days of magic weight loss pills are over, you’ve got to do the work. You’ve got to get up & move! You’ve got to get your sweat on & make that fat cry. I know some of you may be saying I don’t have time for exercise or you may be asking how do I even get started? Well I’m glad you asked! If you are just getting started start off with working out for 20 minutes on a treadmill, a walk around the neighborhood or at a nearby school track or park. After you have mastered that take it up to 30 mins, then 45 & so on. Try to exercise at least 3-5 times per week with at least 2-3 days of strength training. Make it more engaging by getting your family or friends to exercise with you. Adding that layer of accountability helps to motivate you to do it again the next day.

I also totally recommend a gym membership or a personal trainer to help take your workout to the next level and to help target specific areas you need to work on. I’m thankful for my personal trainer MJ(Michelle) with She has definitely helped me to take my workout to the next level! If you can’t afford a personal trainer or a gym membership it’s all good but that is not an excuse not to move. These days there are a plethora of exercise routines on YouTube that can get you started in your own home. I highly recommend the Get Fit Guy for exercise tips & be sure to track your exercise activity in the MyFitnessPal app or online at If you are on the Weight Watchers program of course use your Weight Watchers mobile tracking app! Lastly please do not eat your calories burned through exercise. If you burn 500 calories per day for a week you should lose about 1-2 pounds on a weekly basis. I hope this will motivate you to get up & move today, it will help take your weight loss & your heart health up a notch! Let’s Go! #30DayChallenge

Day 4: The Power of Planning! — September 12, 2013

Day 4: The Power of Planning!

It’s Day 4 of our challenge & I am so excited about this step you are taking to being a healthier you! How many of you know that this won’t happen through osmosis! It takes deliberate and active participation on your end to make this happen. One of the keys to starting any venture whether its starting a new business, working towards a goal or becoming healthy is to have a plan! A popular saying is if you fail to plan then you plan to fail. I don’t want any of you to fail so I highly recommend on this challenge that you plan each day the night before. Plan your meals, plan your snacks & plan your exercise. Pack your meals & snacks before you go to bed so you can just grab them & go on your way out. Plan what time you will exercise during the day and stick to it. What good is a plan if you don’t stick to it right? If you do this it will go a long way in ensuring you stay on track & will help you to avoid the land mines of the fast food drive thru or being struck with a craving but no healthy snack option to grab. So in a nutshell there is power in planning and with the consistent implementation of that plan, you cannot fail! Let’s Go!!!

Day 3: Don’t Just Talk About It, Be About It! — September 11, 2013
